Torsion Spring

Selection and Usage Precautions

  • · Selection and Design Notes

    1. Clarify core parameters: Confirm rated torque, maximum working torsion angle, installation space (inner diameter/outer diameter/axial length), working frequency and service life requirements to avoid insufficient torque or overload plastic deformation.

    2. Match helix hand with rotation direction: The working torsion direction must be consistent with the spring helix hand. Reserve an angle margin of 10%-15%, and do not exceed the ultimate torsion angle of the material.

    3. Select materials according to the scenario: Carbon spring steel is used for ordinary working conditions; alloy spring steels such as 65Mn and 60Si2Mn are selected for high-fatigue and medium-high temperature scenarios; 304/316 stainless steel is used in corrosive environments.

    4. Confirm installation method simultaneously: Clarify the mandrel size and torsion arm fixing form in advance to avoid installation interference and fixing failure.

  • · Installation and Usage Notes

    1. Use a suitable matching mandrel: The spring works on a pin shaft/mandrel. The mandrel diameter is recommended to be 90%-95% of the spring inner diameter. Too small a gap will cause wear, while too large a gap will cause spring deflection and instability.

    2. Fix and fit the torsion arm properly: The torsion arm support point must be closely fitted to avoid sliding and idle stroke during operation, so as to prevent torque loss and abnormal bending of the torsion arm.

    3. Prohibit applying additional loads: Torsion springs only bear pure torsion moment. Do not apply additional axial tension/compression force or lateral force, otherwise it will accelerate wear and greatly shorten the service life.

    4. Control working environment temperature: High temperature will reduce the elastic limit of spring steel, leading to torque attenuation and permanent deformation. High-temperature resistant materials must be selected for over-temperature scenarios.

  • · Storage and Maintenance Notes

    1. Store in a dry and ventilated environment, away from acid-base corrosive media, to prevent spring rust from causing elastic decline.

    2. Avoid stacking and squeezing during storage to prevent torsion arm deformation and permanent deformation of coils.

    3. In high-frequency working scenarios, regularly check whether there are fatigue cracks at the root of the torsion arm and the inner side of the coil. Replace in time if rust or cracks are found.
